Industrial engineers are „intermediaries between two worlds“. Due to their broad training both in engineering and scientific disciplines, as well as economics, they are able to solve complex, interdisciplinary defined problems with interaction of technical feasibility and economic success.

The course Industrial Engineering was originally conceived to ensure sound training for junior staff in enterprises. Today industrial engineers are recognised for being substantially educated holding key positions in international technology-oriented commercial enterprises.

Occupations and Fields of Activity

A wide variety of vocational opportunities are open for Industrial Engineers. Characterising for future activities are again and again the interface between technology and economics, as well as concentration on analysis, solution identification and management of demanding challenges.

Typical fields of activity are:

  • Technical purchasing in the conflict between costs and quality
  • Technical sales in the conflict between the demands of the customer and the interest of the company
  • Production and logistics in conflict between low stocks, short delivery times, lowering costs, as well as high reliability and quality

The Bachelor course Industrial Engineering at the University Rhine Waal places emphasis not only on the combination of the basic subjects of economics and technically, but goes far beyond this.

The structure of the course „Industrial Engineering“ is derived directly from the typical structure and organization of technological enterprises and the career profiles which can be found there.

In the first semesters the foundation is set by the teaching the basis of scientific engineering and economics. Building on this the core subjects are taught, relevant to functions within a commercial enterprise, beginning with technical purchasing, over innovation and production development processes, the actual production, and on to technical marketing and sales.

In order to meet the very high standards demanded of internationality and interdisciplinarity, subjects such as conflict management, intercultural management and entrepreneurship will be covered, and the students will a wealth of soft skills.

The final touch to the knowledge and skills required to qualify for demanding tasks in companies is imparted through subjects such as innovation and technology management, project management and general management.

Requirements

Application process for a study-program without limited admission.
After the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences received your application, you will receive a letter of admission, if your application fulfils all the necessary requirements. This letter will inform you about all the information necessary for your enrolment.

If you are interested in a study program without limited admission you only need to apply for the one you prefer most. If you are eligible to study in Germany, you will be admitted to the study program of your choice, so you do not need to indicate alternative preferences.

Application process for a study-program with limited availability

After we have received your application, we will verify whether or not your application fits the formal and educational requirements. In case the number of applications exceeds availability, there will be a selection procedure based on the grade point average of the applicants.

After the selection procedure is finished, you will receive a letter of admission, or, in case you were not selected, a letter of rejection.

In case you have received a letter of rejection for a study program with limited admission, there is still a chance to be selected in an additional selection-round in case an already admitted applicant rejects or withdraws his/her application from the procedure. You participate in additional selection-round if you applied before July 15th 2011.

If you are interested in a study program with limited admission you can apply for a maximum of three of these programs and one with unlimited admission. This way, in case you are not selected for a study program with limited admission, you can still be sure to be admitted to a study program with unlimited admission (provided you are eligible to study in Germany).

Enrolment

After admission you must still enrol to become a student of the University of Applied Sciences of Rhine-Waal.

Enrolment is allowed only in person after you arrive in Germany. After making an appointment with the International Office, please bring the following documents:

  • Original diplomas, certificates and mark sheets used for the application
  • Letter of admission
  • Passport
  • Two passport photos
  • Proof of payment of the tuition fees (e.g. a bank statement)

In order to enroll, you will also need a German health insurance, which we will help you to obtain. Costs for health insurance for students are between € 60,- and € 70,- per month.
