The Professional Bachelor's Degree in Software Development programme is an advanced course based on the Computer Science programme. The programme is ideal for you, if you would like to take part in the design and construction of large data-heavy distributed IT systems.

The Professional Bachelor's Degree in Software Development programme is an 18-month degree course. The focus of the programme is to build large, distributed, data-heavy IT systems – subjects that were the focus of the 3rd semester of the Computer Science programme.

The programme will give you competences that will enable you to participate in the development of technical design and realisation of systems in a distributed environment. It also focuses on the application of widespread methods and technologies. As a Professional Bachelor in Software Development you will be able to undertake functions as Systems Developer/Architect in connection with the development of large distributed systems.

Contents

The Professional Bachelor's Degree in Software Development programme consists of six subject modules, a work placement and a final bachelor project.

The subject modules deal with various issues related to the development of large data-heavy and distributed systems. The subject modules are completed as separate subjects, and it is your responsibility to create cohesion between the modules in your final bachelor project.

Each of the first two semesters features three modules, whilst the final (3rd) semester consists of a work placement with an IT company and a final bachelor project, also to be completed in a company.

Your programme has to be composed of five core modules and an elective module, adding up to a total of six subject modules.

1st semester

  • Subject Module 1
  • Subject Module 2
  • Subject Module 3

2nd semester

  • Subject Module 4
  • Subject Module 5
  • Subject Module 6

3rd semester

  • Work Placement
  • Bachelor Project

Subject Modules

Core Modules:

  • Test
  • System integration
  • Contract based development
  • Development of large systems
  • Databases for developers

Elective Modules:

  • Security
  • Project management

Additional Module:

Theory of science (this is an additional module, which you should take if you plan to
continue studying for e.g. a Master's degree).

Work Placement

You will spend the first half of the 3rd semester in a work placement with a company. The placement will give you the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge to practical work, and at the same time you enhance your chances of gaining quick access to an exciting job. It is your own responsibility to find a company that will take you in, but we do place a large number of contacts at your disposition.

Bachelor Project

During the second half of the 3rd semester, you have to write your bachelor project. The bachelor project should be based on a practice-related issue. You will outline the issue for the bachelor project in collaboration with an external partner, e.g. the company where you do your work placement. Normally, the main project is elaborated in close contact with the company, and you will probably spend most of your time at the company whilst working on the project.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
