As for serious gaming, this market is also developing rapidly; educative games,
mobile games and games for advertising, museums or the health sector play an increasing role in our society.
Gaming is booming and big business. It is expanding like never before. The call for skilled and expert game designers is therefore a fact. With Gaming you step into a world that has no boundaries. You can visualise your own creative thoughts!
Our Gaming study programmes connect technology, creativity, innovation and
human science so you will be ready to become the game specialist of the future.
First and second year
In the first two years you will create a broad base for the rest of your education. An extensive package of basic disciplines. As a GCP student you learn the basics skills of game art, 2D/3D and game design, using storyboard, mood board, and tools like Photoshop, Flash pro, Maya and unity3D. You also learn the basics of programming within Actions Script 3 and Unity3D. Topics as Advertising, Interaction Design, 3D Animation, Marketing and Producing are learned in these first two years.
The second year ends with a major, full-time project for an external company. We do this in the first two years, this being the base for your graduation plan which you write yourself to determine in what domain you want to specialize yourself. It helps you determine where you want to do your internship, and where your focus for the next two years, and your graduation will be. Specialization, research, personal skills and professional development are the major topics here.
Third and fourth year
In the third year you´ll do an internship for approximately 5 months. In a company you were you are a co-worker while studying the ways the company works, their methods, their workflows and their profession. You will also improve your personal skills.
After that you can focus on the topic of your choice for five months, also known as your specialization. Within certain restrictions, we´re there to help you choose in which domain you want to specialize, and together with your graduation coach you´ll make sure to enter the industry with the required portfolio, showing you are the right person for the job!
The minor enables you to widen your vision by choosing from the many minors Saxion offers or even from another university. You may want to do Entrepreneurship as a preparation for running your own Independent Game Company or whatever suits you to create the best game out there! Now you are ready for your graduation project. This is where you show what you can do, within the context of a company assignment.
In the end you will be able to enter the gaming industry with the required knowledge you need to be a part of that team who will create the latest games out there, whether in the entertainment industry, the educational or the serious gaming industry.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
More informationFirst of all you have to meet the general entry requirements.
For all Saxion pathways the following general entry requirements are necessary:
The students’ qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific Course on the basis of provided Diplomas, Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and if necessary an Intake Interview.
For Both Bachelor and Master Courses the entry requirement is an Academic IELTS of 6.0 or an equivalent in another language test (TOEFL 550, etc.).
