This course is accredited by QCA (Qualification and Curriculum Authority) at Level 4 on the Qualification and Credit Framework. It's a module- based course comprising of 11 units equating to a total number of 120 credits towards the 2nd year of Foundation/Honours Degree or 2nd year in Diploma in Nursing. Health care assistants are expected to work in health care settings i.e. care homes, hospitals, communities. This course enables students to obtain higher level learning in health care. As job roles within health care services become redefined and progressively upgraded, developing formal training and qualifications and providing career progression routes across the health care sector have become a government commitment in the UK. Changes in the nursing profession are, in particular, impacting on those working in support roles and there is a recognized need for experienced staff to undertake increased responsibilities.
The Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Well-being has been developed for those who are aspiring to, or already working at “Assistant Practitioner” level of the NHS career band structure. It links with the “core dimensions” at Level 4 of the NHS knowledge and skills framework, including communication, personal and people development; health, safety and security and equality and diversity.

What is a Higher Professional Diploma (HPD)?
HPDs are new qualifications at Level 4 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). They are taught courses with a clear vocational focus, which provide access to vocational qualifications for those wishing to continue their professional development beyond level 3. HPDs are geared towards the needs of each industry and can thus provide the knowledge and understanding that will enable individuals to reach the very top of their profession.
