The three core elements of the curriculum are:

  • Business Economics: Courses in Business Studies form the basis of the programme. Examples of courses in this field are Mathematics, Statistics, Integrated Service Management, and Finance & Accounting.
  • Industry-specific courses: Here students acquire detailed insight into the international hospitality industry and gain in depth knowledge of specific management-related subjects such as Restaurant Management, Food and Beverage Management, Rooms Division Management, Law and Human Resource Management in the hospitality industry and Hotel Engineering.
  • Skills courses: The practical programme (1 or 2 semesters), Computer Training, foreign language courses, Business Communication, etc. all provide vital training in essential and sought-after skills.

Courses are conducted in the form of lectures and seminars. The average size of a class is 30 students thus allowing for an interactive dialogue between professors and students.

Internship

One five-six month internship enables our students to turn their academic knowledge into practical experience. The internship can be taken either in Germany or abroad in the six-semester Hospitality Management programme and abroad only in the seven-semester International Hospitality Management programme. The internship represents a crucial element of our study programmes: Students establish first ties with the industry and have the chance to make a first impression on potential employers.

Practical Programme

A further addition to the study programme's emphasis on practical experience is what we call "Practical Programme". The Practical Programme is offered during the first two semesters. The programme at the Bad Honnef campus and Bad Reichenhall campus consists of the following elements:

  • Aspects of nutritional science
  • Wine Seminars
  • Service Training in the university's restaurant
  • Practical kitchen management (in our restaurant's kitchen and demonstration kitchen)
  • Complete planning, organisation and running of the "Student Gala Dinner" at the anno restaurant in Bad Honnef or the restaurant on the Bad Reichenhall campus.

Workshops and presentations by the hospitality industry's experts complete the programme, as well as field trips to hotels and to companies in other sectors of the hospitality industry.

Studying Abroad

Students in the six-semester Hospitality Management programme who perform very well during their studies have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at one of our partner universities (in-house selection process).

All students of the seven-semester International Hospitality Management programme study one year abroad at one of our partner universities where they gain their first Bachelor's degree.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
