The Aviation Management study programme teaches students the core issues of business administration in the aviation industry. In 2001, the IUBH was one of the first European universities to introduce a study programme in Aviation Management. The programme's strong academic focus together with integrated practical components have repeatedly received praise from the industry.

Contents

The three core elements of the curriculum are:

  • Business economics - Courses in Business Studies form the basis of the programme. Examples of courses in this field are: Mathematics, Statistics, Integrated Service Management, and Finance & Accounting.
  • Industry-specific courses - here students get to know the aviation industry from scratch and gain in depth knowledge of specific management-related subjects such as Airport Management, Aviation Policy, Airline Management, Yield-Management, Business models of Airlines, Slot Management, Network Management, Financing Airlines and Airports
  • Employability - Computer training, foreign language courses, Business Communication, etc. form essential skills for the employment market

Courses are conducted in the form of lectures and seminars. The average size of a class is 30 students thus allowing for interactive communication between professors and their students.

Internship

One 5-6 month internship enables our students to turn their academic knowledge into practical experience. The internship can be taken either in Germany or abroad and represents a crucial element of our studies. Students establish first ties with the industry and have the chance to make a first impression on potential employers.

Extra Curriculum

A further addition to the study programme's emphasis on practical experience is what we call "Extra Curriculum". The Extra Curriculum is offered once per week during the first semester. Participation is optional.
The programme consists of the following elements:

  • Workshops and conferences on and off campus on different subjects
  • Guest lectures from experts from the aviation industry
  • Field trips to industry-specific companies, e.g. airlines or airports

The Extra Curriculum works as an excellent orientation tool in the first semester and provides our students with first-hand insights into the world of aviation. In this way, our students learn more about how the industry is structured, which types of companies and what work opportunities exist.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
