Location of University for the Creative Arts

This top-up course which leads to a full BA (Hons) degree has a strong vocational content and high levels of engagement with professional practice. Although principally intended as a final year experience to the Foundation Degree in Hand Embroidery the course is also open to students from other colleges and institutions.
On the course you experience a strongly supportive working environment and visiting lecturers and tutors from the professional art, design and textile industries who are involved in your progress through tutorials and portfolio reviews.

Key study topics include:

* Professional portfolio development - how to present your work to potential employers or clients
* Major project preparation - you develop the thinking for your final project
* Dissertation on a subject relevant to your potential future employment
* Final major project in which you bring all your ideas together.


Contents

Syllabus (11/12*)

Year 1

This course contains four units:

* Dissertation - a period of self-directed research on a subject that is related to the historical, theoretical, critical concerns of your discipline or professional area.
* Professional portfolio - develop your practice within a professional framework appropriate for your chosen pathway.
* Major project preparation - during this period you will focus on your ownership of the techniques of hand embroidery, and their effective application in order to achieve your intended outcomes.
* Final major project - produce a focused and extended body of work responding to the self-determined brief. This culminates in an exhibition where you are able to demonstrate a synthesis of your previously acquired technical and theoretical knowledge in a format appropriate to your pathway.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Entry requirements (2012 entry)

The following qualifications and minimum requirements will be considered:

* Foundation degree in art, design or multimedia related subjects
* BTEC Higher Diploma in design or multimedia related subjects
* Diploma in Higher Education or 240 credits in an art, design or multimedia related subjects.

Other relevant and equivalent UK and international qualifications are considered on an individual basis.

English language requirements

If your first language is not English a certificate is required as evidence that you have an average IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component) or equivalent.

You may be offered a place on a course on the condition that you improve your English language and study skills. We offer two pre-sessional English language courses which can improve your IELTS score by a maximum of 1.0 and 0.5, or equivalent.

Portfolio/Interview

You should bring a variety of your work, including: stitched, creative development and designs and be able to discuss where and how you see your work developing and the particular pathways they are seeking to explore.
