BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion at UCA Rochester equips you with the skills and expertise needed for a career in the competitive world of international fashion and style promotion. By exploring a wide range of styles, from high street fashion to the one-offs of haute couture, you learn how to identify and redefine the changing needs of markets and consumers.
Key study topics include:
* Fashion awareness and trend prediction
* Styling and public relations
* Optional work placement or international exchange
* Moving image
* Fashion marketing, branding and journalism
* Creative styling
* Major project with a selected discipline such as PR, styling, moving image or journalism
* Creation of a magazine including art direction, journalism, styling and marketing.
Syllabus (11/12*)
Year 1
The first year of the course introduces the underlying concepts and principles associated with the subject of fashion promotion. You have the opportunity to be introduced to, identify, explore, and experiment a range of promotional activities in the first year.
* Style: past, present, future - introduces the importance of research methodologies through an informed understanding of the past, present and future.
* Fashion vocabulary - you identify the three communication specialisms of fashion promotion (written, visual and promotional activity) through theoretical and creative analysis.
* Introduction to reflective research - you identify appropriate and systematic approaches to the collection, organisation, annotation and analysis of research findings, whilst supporting the creation of your fashion vocabulary glossary.
* Communicating ID - understand and recognise all forms of communicating fashion identity to a specific audience defined by theoretical frameworks.
* Developing reflective research - begin the transition from fact base to interpretative research processes in both reflective and academic areas.
* Reflective practice - select, analyse, synthesise and evaluate all year one work in order to produce the creative portfolio outcomes.
Year 2
Emphasis is placed on how to define, detail, develop and decide upon unit outcomes. This enables you to build on and expand your expertise and at the same time add new skills and enhance your understanding of how the promotional world works.
* Creating fashion narratives - understand, analyse and embrace new technologies to promote fashion while defining the importance of narrative.
* PR & campaigns - design and create a detailed promotional campaign for a fashion brand.
* Industry awareness (optional) - observe and reflect upon industry practice to begin the process in developing personal career aspirations and employment networking opportunities, whilst encouraging decision-making in relation to career aspiration, individual ambition and entrepreneurship.
* European or international exchange (optional)
Year 3
The third year of the course enables you to synthesise and specialise your acquired knowledge and understanding by concentrating your studies on a chosen specialism.
* Research & innovation - select, adapt and creatively implement research methodologies acquired throughout the course to inform proposals relating to the major specialism.
* Entrepreneurial practice - provides challenges in creating new opportunities in developing entrepreneurial mindsets, behaviours and skill abilities in creating career futures.
* Dissertation - you undertake in-depth research, which demonstrates an understanding of historical or critical concerns by producing a clear, coherent and sustained written argument.
* Major specialism - consolidate and rationalise your personal philosophy in creatively directing specialist practice that reflects your career aspiration.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The following qualifications and minimum requirements will be considered:
* Minimum entry criteria of 220-240 UCAS tariff points, see list of accepted qualifications for further details
* OR pass at UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Level 3)
* OR pass at BTEC Extended Diploma / National Diploma (Level 3)
* OR Access Diploma
AND
* Four GCSE passes at grade C or above, including English or Key Skills Communication Level 2.
Other relevant and equivalent UK and international qualifications are considered on an individual basis.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English a certificate is required as evidence that you have an average IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component) or equivalent.
You may be offered a place on a course on the condition that you improve your English language and study skills. We offer two pre-sessional English language courses which can improve your IELTS score by a maximum of 1.0 and 0.5, or equivalent.
Portfolio/Interview
PortfolioYour portfolio should showcase your interests and skills and contain selected course work and the final outcomes of visual research. There should also be evidence of IT skills and a good standard of English language skills in selected written work such as trend, retail, marketing and styling analyses.
Your portfolio should include:
* A well presented and edited selection of relevant course work that shows your visual abilities and writing skills.
* Evidence of computer skills, photography and graphic application that demonstrates your technical and creative ability.
* Evidence of writing skills in the form of reports, reviews, summary or analyses.
* Evidence of your own interests and inspirations other than the prescribed course work that shows your personal passion for your subject.
InterviewAt the interview you should demonstrate a good knowledge of: current fashion design, history of design, trend directions, retail and contemporary lifestyle culture such as art exhibitions, film and music, also the media culture of newspapers, magazines, websites and new visual communication.
