With curricula focusing on four disciplines - responsible entrepreneurship, human health, animal health, and nature and the environment - Van Hall Larenstein is a very remarkable university. It is not just that the disciplines are special. By combining areas of expertise, our students can compile their own challenging programme, some of which are unique in the world!
Our study programme is provided at four levels: Certificate programmes, Bachelor programmes, postgraduate courses and Master programmes. We also provide national and international consultancy. In fact, we are not just a university of applied sciences: we are also a knowledge provider that’s specialised in a wide range of social and economic issues.
Van Hall Larenstein is part of Wageningen University and Research Centre, therefore we can offer you a vast range of higher vocational and university courses and research. Thanks to the transfer modules and transfer conditions developed within the Bachelor programmes of Van Hall Larenstein, you will be able to transfer to the scientific Master programmes at Wageningen University.
Our educational program is competence based. This means that, right from the start, you will be in close contact with professional life and practice. Supported by our teaching staff, you will work on your competences in a range of projects relating to applied research, practical internships and event management. In addition, you will have various opportunities to operate in an international context - not just in programme-specific projects, but also in your work placement and thesis. At Van Hall Larenstein we ensure that we offer our students the greatest possible freedom, and that we provide them with opportunities for international educational exchange and professional development.
Van Hall Larenstein has three sites in the Netherlands, at Leeuwarden, Velp and Wageningen.
At Van Hall Larenstein you will study in an inspiring international environment. Then there is the northern town of Leeuwarden, whose culture, sports and housing facilities have long made it one of the Netherlands’ top three student cities. And, last but not least, there is Wageningen, a great place to study, particularly because it is one of the Netherlands’ most internationally oriented student cities. VHL is the biggest “green” university of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands with a great number of internships in an international context. Small classes, personal attention and team work with personal contact among the students in an international atmosphere!

Services & Facilities
The building in Velp is located on Landgoed Larenstein. This extensive estate was already part of a string of estates in the 18th century, that were located on the transitional area of the Gelder complex of push-moraines and the valley of the river IJssel. The number of estates was reduced dramatically in the last century.
Only street names now recall these estates of the past. But the Larenstein estate still exists and is now one big practice room for the various courses of Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein.
On our location in Velp you can use an extensive multi-media library and various laboratories on a unique estate that functions as one big practice room. You will receive your own e-mail address, which you can use to log in wirelessly on one of the many computers in the building to check your study results, roster changes and other news topics. Because of the spacious (practice) rooms and the large amount of incoming light it is not only pleasant to study and work outdoors but indoors in Velp as well.
Student Life
Each of Van Hall Larenstein’s three towns have individual qualities that make them great places to study. Each provides good accommodation, sport facilities and places to go out.
First, let’s take Arnhem, which borders on Velp. Not only is it a city full of creativity and culture, there are also nature areas such as Sonsbeek Park in and near the town centre. There’s a large stadium for soccer and concerts, and a day out can be rounded off at Korenmarkt, the entertainment district.

NVAO (in Dutch: Nederlands-Vlaamse Accreditatieorganisatie) is the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders. The organisation was established by international treaty and it ensures the quality of higher education in the Netherlands and Flanders. All study programmes of Van Hall Larenstein are accredited by the NVAO.
