Student life at The American University of Rome is a unique experience. The Student Life Office strives to complement the academic mission of the University—to promote intellectual excellence, personal growth and an appreciation of cultural diversity in an international environment—by providing and supporting opportunities for learning through extra-curricular activities.
The activities and facilities that we offer strive to promote students’ leadership development, social responsibility, multicultural competence and intellectual inquiry. Our staff is committed to providing students with superb service in an engaging environment to entice their participation in formal and informal activities.
Students engage actively in clubs, athletics, performing groups. AUR also encourages students to learn through participation in community service. Clubs and organizations offer movie nights, multicultural dinners with open debates on topical issues, a literary magazine, seminars and networking fairs. Students may become active in local events or improve their Italian in organized conversations with neighbors. The “ResGrad” program of peer-to-peer intercultural and practical mentoring offers students an opportunity to better engage the local culture.
Sport
Students participate in athletic and recreational offerings: competitive university men’s and women’s soccer leagues, a coed running club, a yoga club, a men’s basketball club, martial arts training, and even a rowing club that allows students to enjoy Rome from a unique and privileged perspective. True to Roman myth and history, AUR athletes are the Wolves and She-wolves with a mascot to lead the cheers.
Excursions
The University offers learning excursions as a feature of extracurricular and academic life. “Learning Italy Excursions” introduce new students to the people, art, history, language, landscape and culture of the Italian peninsula. Trips are one to three days long. Excursions feature destinations like Pompeii, Capri, Florence, Venice, Sicily, or Tuscany for weekend trips.
