Laurea produces new competences in the field of service innovations and carries out professionally orientated education, regional development and R&D activities by following the Learning by Developing (LbD) operational model. Laurea employs approximately 500 personnel and has app. 8 000 students, of which app. 1 200 study in the adult education programmes.

Laurea operates in the Greater Helsinki Region in seven units close to good transport connections.

Studying at Laurea

Laurea offers students all the benefits of a large university of applied sciences, with modern facilities and tools, and a unique learning method. At Laurea, each student participates in genuine project partnerships with companies, associations and diverse other organisations. Close cooperation with companies and organisations makes studying at Laurea creative, comprehensive and experiential.

Internationality

Internationality features strongly at Laurea. Laurea has international students completing whole degree programmes, and hosts and sends out approximately 200 exchange students each year. There are also visiting lecturers from international partner institutions, international project work and several international events yearly.

Laurea issues Diploma Supplements to all its graduates along with their degree certificates. The documents provide an internationally recognized and transparent description of a student’s studies. Diploma Supplements also enable employers and higher education institutions to gain a full understanding and appreciation of a student’s academic achievements. DS Label

Laurea has been awarded the European Commission’s Diploma Supplement Label for 2009 -2013. The Diploma Supplement Label awarded is a mark of quality that confirms that the Laurea’s document fully meets the requirements of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive of the European Union (EACEA). The DS Label recognizes the quality of the Diploma Supplements issued to all graduates.

At Laurea Open University of Applied Sciences you can:

Flexible Study

The studies are rooted in working life, and the knowledge acquired through them is easy to transfer into working and everyday life. If students are working at the same time as studying, the studies have to be flexible. This is why some of the study units are taught online. Open study is done in groups that are integrated into the Laurea´s permanent degree student groups.

Studying here is open to all, and there are no requirements as to age or previous education. Anyone interested in open studies is welcome to ask about all courses that are part of Laurea’s curriculum. Some courses (especially in specialist studies) may have requirements for previous knowledge, knowledge of languages etc.

Notice however that Foreign students attending Open University of Applied Sciences studies may need a visa or a residence permit depending on their citizenship, and in practice it is difficult to get these only for this purpose. Studies come under Laurea’s Qualification Regulations. Entire degrees (qualifications) cannot be completed at the Open University of Applied Sciences. Laurea’s degree students cannot enrol at the Open University of Applied Sciences.
