Performing Arts at JCU
The JCU Theater Group: Both study abroad and degree-seeking student actors, singers and dancers are welcome! You can also help with music, scenery, stage management, technical assistance or make-up. This collective effort culminates in lively and colorful productions put on for the JCU community and the public every semester. The photo shows the Spring 2010 performance of Rent.
John Cabot University Student Leadership Programs
As a study abroad or degree-seeking student at JCU, you serve as an unofficial ambassador for your country. In addition to your studies, your most important “job” is to make friends across borders.
Getting involved at John Cabot can make it easier for you to make these friendships as well as develop resume-building leadership skills.
These are some of our premier leadership programs:
Student government officers represent the interests of John Cabot University students to JCU faculty and administrators. Serving in student government is a great way to implement your ideas for strengthening the JCU community.
John Cabot University Student Ambassadors support JCU through public relations, admissions support and events planning. Student Ambassadors' give campus tours, assist during Orientation, and plan events.
Through our John Cabot University Community Service Program, you have the opportunity to become more aware of our modern-day social needs and take an active role in addressing different problems. You might have the chance to help the homeless, work in a soup kitchen, help abused women, assist at a refugee center or support an English-language library. JCU students have also been actively involved raising money for international relief efforts.
During your time at JCU, you have the unique opportunity to volunteer a small amount of your time to go directly into an Italian High School ‘Liceo’ classroom and meet with Italian High School students of English and their teacher. Enriching your international experience at JCU, you meet with people in their context and better understand what it means to live and study in Rome. Likewise, you give these students an opportunity to acquire an understanding of you, your country and your culture that goes well beyond what they might read in a textbook or see in a film. These students might one day be your colleague or counterpart in your professional life. It’s worth getting to know them today!
Completely in English, your discussions with students will focus on a topic of your choice which can include personal interests, current events as well as specific topics suggested by the hosting teacher. While this is not a language tutoring or teaching program, it gives you the chance to volunteer your time to help students not much younger than you to practice their language skills while learning about you, your lifestyle, your ideas. In turn, you will learn about them and their experience growing up in Italy.

Clubs and Organizations Italian Cultural Club
The goal of the Italian Culture Club is to expand students' knowledge of Italian language and culture. By engaging students from all backgrounds and from every major or minor in various activities, the club appeals to a common interest in Italian Culture both in Rome and beyond.
Model United Nations
The John Cabot University Model United Nations Society seeks to promote the specific goals of John Cabot University:
Participation in Model United Nations enriches students’ international outlook, in giving them intense awareness of other countries and international issues, as well as experience in seeking feasible solutions through reasoned discussion. This work in crafting and promoting particular solutions is especially important in training future leaders in a globalized world. Students’ experience in engaging with these issues, with other students from all around the world, is an important step in helping to create and develop an international community, and to embrace the challenges of a more global future.
The MUN Society also seeks to enhance the program in international studies at John Cabot, by giving students an interdisciplinary opportunity to work in multiple fields at once, as well as an experiential, deliberative dimension beyond what can be simulated in the classroom.
Multicultural Club
The purpose of the Multicultural Club is to explore and promote an increased understanding of the various cultures of the world amongst students of John Cabot University. Members of the club will have the opportunity to further their knowledge of the global community through their participation and to foster appreciation at John Cabot University and its community of the different cultures, nationalities, ethnic groups, and languages.
Newspaper Club
The Matthew is the student-run newspaper of John Cabot University that is published both in print and online. The goal of The Matthew is to provide the student body with a coherent voice, a medium of collective expression, and a forum in which to openly explore and better understand issues which affect all the JCU community.
Stand
STAND, the student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network, envisions a world in which the international community protects civilians from genocidal violence and elected officials are held accountable for their actions, or inaction, in the face of genocide.
Born out of the fight to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, STAND is devoted to creating a sustainable student network that actively fights genocide wherever it may occur. The mission of the STAND chapter at JCU is to provide individuals and communities with a comprehensive understanding of the nature, limits and characteristics of genocide.
The mission of STAND relative to JCU is to create greater awareness within the University’s community as well as the larger community of Rome. One of the fundamental tools to stop and prevent genocide is a greater dispersal of knowledge and information about the ongoing situation in Sudan. The conflict in Sudan can be viewed as a domestic issue separate from international intervention; however, the occurrence of genocide within Sudanese borders not only compels intervention but demands unprecedented attention and recognition from the international arena.
The fact that our University is an American institution found within a larger international setting with an international community places us in a crucial position, which necessitates a call to action and acknowledgement of the burden of our responsibility.
Student Government
The John Cabot University Student Government is committed to promoting the interests of JCU students, whether they be Degree Seeking or Visiting. It serves as a reference point for Faculty and Staff to understand better the goals and desires of students, as well as a means by which students' concerns may be voiced to the Administration.

Our mission is to provide an environment that encourages sensitivity to the diverse ethnic and cultural origins of the members of the University community. You will have the opportunity to savor different types of culinary experiences as well as American comfort food!
Students with Disabilities
John Cabot University does not discriminate on the basis of disability or handicap.
In order to ensure a satisfactory learning experience, we follow a three-step process in dealing with student limitations.
First, we require students who are aware that they have learning disabilities or other disabilities to identify themselves at the time they pay their tuition deposit or housing placement fee. Second, for students who have informed us of their learning disability or other disability, we require detailed medical documentation and/or psychological documentation of the situation, in order to determine the nature of the problem and the recommended management. Third, in conjunction with the student and professional advisors, we assess the accommodations that would be necessary for the student to complete a course or program at JCU. After this evaluation has taken place, students will be informed directly by the Academic Dean's Office of the accommodations that have been granted. In the event it appears that reasonable accommodations cannot be made for a student with a learning or other disability, the University will refund the application fee, the tuition deposit, and the housing placement fee.
John Cabot University cannot provide individual learning or other disability accommodations to students who do not follow the above guidelines.
Health Assistance
Before coming to JCU, students are required to complete and return the Health Assistance Form.
The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance to JCU. The University encourages all students to contact staff when they need assistance in this area. A JCU Administrator always has the JCU Emergency Phone 24/7 (to be called only in real emergencies). The Student Services Office maintains a roster of English-speaking physicians and counselors in Rome qualified to assist our students at all times and makes referrals, but assumes no responsibility for these medical referrals.
Housing and Residential Life
JCU Housing provides accommodations to students in residential areas in order to promote an authentic study abroad experience in support of the overall mission of the University. Students housed with JCU are given the opportunity to live like Romans and should be mature, open to new experiences and ready for an international 'off-campus' housing experience. Living in JCU Housing will give students a better understanding of urban Italian life.
For the most part, JCU apartments are grouped in areas adjacent to the university. Our clustered apartments make it easy for you to get to know your JCU neighbors and commute to campus together on foot or by bus.
All students in JCU Housing are assigned Resident Assistants who are available to help students in their residential life experience while at JCU. Resident Assistants live in the same neighborhoods as students and are available to answer questions, organize events and generally assist students adjust to Roman life. JCU also provides a meal plan that can be used at the Tiber Cafe in the Tiber Student Center. Participating students are issued vouchers that can be used for a full meal at lunch time.
JCU housing is not a mandatory part of the university application process. Before applying we invite you to carefully review all of our online materials, the application process, assignments policy, move-in/out dates, and all application and payment deadlines to see if JCU Housing is right for you.
