Bahçesehir University was founded in 1998 as a foundation university by Bahçesehir Ugur Educational Institutions.

Bahçesehir University is aiming to take its place among the leading universities in the world with its strong academic staff, research and educational-instructional programs on international level, study abroad opportunities and modern technical infrastructure.

Bahçesehir University encourages its students to be productive, investigative and intellectual individuals, who are respectful of human rights and freedoms with social responsibility to serve humanity and who are adorned with creative thinking in line with universal knowledge and values.

Campus is located in Besiktas at the heart of Istanbul, the city, where Europe meets Asia. There exists six faculties at Bahçesehir University; Economics & Administrative Sciences, Communication, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Law and Architecture, two institutions; Institute of Science and Institute of Social Sciences, and a Vocational school. The medium of instruction at the university is English.

Following an English program for proficiency in Preparatory School, the students are eligible for faculty courses. German, Spanish or Russian are taught as foreign languages.

Bahçesehir University has various academic and strategic cooperation agreements with the leading universities in the USA and participates in the Erasmus Program. It also carries out joint programs with many universities in Europe and the Far East. Similarly, Bahçesehir University offers its students the opportunity to take English Preparatory Program abroad. The program is implemented at Northeastern University, Boston; Kent State University, Cleveland, Ohio; California State University, San Bernardino, California; and in Washington DC.

A liaison office in Brussels cooperates with the European Universities, explore the possibilities to benefit from the EU funds (funds that are not decentralized) and offers internship opportunities in Brussels known as the capital of the EU.
Bahçesehir University organizes many certificate programs and conferences, and hosts various cultural events during the year as a service to and for the intellectual development of the community. "School of Politics and Leadership" that has been carrying out its program for two years and the "Public Academy" that started in 2006, are successful programs developed in line with this vision.

Public Academy is initiated as the starting point of "Istanbul, Capital of Culture 2010" process to which Bahçesehir University will contribute with various different projects. "Public Academy" where courses are given voluntarily by experts from different fields and academics, is free of charge and open to public.
