About

This Business Management and Economics (Hons) course at Nottingham Trent University will train you to become an economist right from day one. You will develop your knowledge on the ideas and methods used by economists to support successful business and management.

The approach to engaging with the business world will give you a distinctive perspective on decision making, a skill that is in demand by many employers. All students will take part in a business simulation task, imitating the experience of running a business with a group of fellow students.

As an economics student you’ll have access to our unique Trading Room facility. With 12 double-screen workstations, the room gives you a simulated experience of working in the fast-moving world of shares trading. You can access sophisticated analysis tools and data on worldwide financial markets.

During your second year you have a variety of unique opportunities to get involved in such as studying abroad, enterprise project, community project, internship or simply continue with your studies. The course can be studied over three years full-time or four years with a placement.

Our BA (Hons) Business Management Joint Honour courses and BA (Hons) Business course have a Dual Award status with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). In addition to your degree you will also gain a CMI qualification.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 6.5

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.

  • Minimum required score (Grade B2): 176

    The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

  • Minimum required score: 83

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

You will need one of the following:
  • A-levels – BBC, excluding General Studies
  • BTEC Extended Diploma – DMM
  • 112 UCAS Tariff points from three A-levels or equivalent qualifications, excluding General Studies.
  • You will also need GCSEs – English and Maths grade C.
