The Bachelor En Cultures Européennes at the University of Luxembourg is a three-year course (six semesters) including a semester abroad. It offers students the chance to complete disciplinary studies majoring in Romance studies, German studies, History, Philosophy or English studies. These disciplinary studies are supplemented with a range of interdisciplinary courses.

The BCE degree programme leads to the academic degree Bachelor En Cultures Européennes, specialising in one of the majors: French studies, German studies, English Studies, History and Philosophy.

The course provides expert qualifications and knowledge related to the relevant major. Multidisciplinary skills such as cross-border thinking, interdisciplinarity and multilingualism mean that students are also qualified for a range of professions.

Within the BCE programme, students have as well the opportunity to explore potential career paths by participating in special workshops designed to help them form a realistic impression of what working in a specific area is like.

Learning outcomes

As well as the fundamental study goals of the majors (cf. website of the subject concerned), social communication skills, the capacity to change perspective and for critical self-reflection are promoted. Furthermore, the following skills are gained in particular:

A semester abroad is mandatory for students on the B.A. degree programme at the University of Luxembourg. On the BCE this is generally completed in the 5th semester.

Students at the University of Luxembourg (outgoing students) as well as foreign students (incoming students), who wish to study at the University of Luxembourg through the ERASMUS or CAMPUS EUROPAE programmes, are institutionally supervised during the semester abroad

Academic Requirements

  • Required degree(s): The Luxembourg "Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires" or "secondaires techniques" or a foreign equivalent recognised by the Ministry of National Education.
  • Selection criteria : Selection based on application form (40 students admitted)
  • The admissions board will meet twice: once in late June and once in mid-August: First wave of applications: applicants who submit their online application by Friday, 10 June 2016 and their paper application by Friday, 17 June 2016 will get an answer at the beginning of July (after 4 July 2016). Second wave of applications:applicants who submit their online application by Sunday, 31 July 2016 and their paper application within the official deadline (8 August), will get an answer after mid-August.
