Its objective is a better understanding of the human being. The preoccupation with scientific methods and results in the Bachelor En Psychologie constitutes the fundamental qualification for the later professional activity within the field of psychology.

What is the structure of the study programme?

The trilingual study programme Bachelor En Psychologie (BAP) serves as the first access to the fascinating field of research and professional activity in Psychology. The University of Luxembourg(Luxemburg) offers this study programme since the academic year 2005/06. The studies extend over a period of three years (i.e., six semesters). After finishing the Bachelor programme with a diploma (B.Sc.), a Master’s degree can be pursued.

At the „Journée portes ouvertes 2013“ George Steffgen, the Study Director of the BAP, explained the psychology studies at the University of Luxembourg to interested pupils.

What are the goals of study programme?

The study programme BAP aims at providing a well-founded scientific background as well as knowledge in essential psychological theories. Scientific approaches to psychology comprise four different fields of competence:

  • Competences in theory:establishing critical and objective thinking, acquiring basic psychological knowledge
  • Competences in methodology:acquiring knowledge in empirical and scientific research methods
  • Competences in intervention:acquiring knowledge in applied psychology
  • Advanced personal competences:setting of personal priorities through the selection of in-depth subjects
What are the admission requirements?

The basic requirement to register as a BAP student is the “Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires” or any equivalent qualification. Good or very good German, French and English language skills are also required. In addition, there will be a selection procedure for candidates that meet these requirements. Candidates have to submit a personal letter of motivation first. Additionally, they may be invited to a personal multilingual interview, which offers them the chance to present, in a personal situation, the reasons for their choice to study Psychology. The maximum number of students admitted is 80.

Academic Requirements

La condition d’admission pour le BAP est un diplôme de fin d’études secondaires générales (baccalauréat ) ou une qualification équivalente. De bonnes ou très bonnes connaissances des langues allemande, française et anglaise sont requises. Les candidats admissibles sont soumis à une procédure de sélection. Ils déposent une lettre de motivation personnelle et seront, le cas échéant, invités à un entretien multilingue qui leur permet d’expliquer dans une situation de contact direct les raisons de leur choix d’études. Le nombre maximum de candidats admis annuellement est de 80.
