This programme has been designed for the professional applications engineer who require a good background in the use of a variety of computer software and hardware systems.

This is a high-level technical programme, but one that concentrates on the applications typically used, rather than the design behind them. You will work, in approximately equal measure, on both hardware and software systems but also gain experience in the use of a number of software applications. You will undertake some networking activity, but the main focus is on the use of software for specific hardware and for computer systems in general. The use of embedded and real-time systems is a particular feature of the programme.

Additionally, you will be given training in management and professional practice and can opt for a year in industry between your second and final year.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To develop knowledge and understanding of mathematical/scientific principles and metholology necessary to support the application of key principles of computer hardware and software engineering problems and scenarios
  • To have the ability to apply quantitive methods and computer software relevant to computer hardware and software engineering principles in a multidisciplinary context
  • To have the ability to use the results of analysis to solve computer hardware and software system engineering problems, apply the relevant technology and implement the pertinent engineering processes.

Applicants should have:

240 UCAS points

FROM A-levels, ideally from engineering and/or IT subjects

OR a National Diploma in engineering and/or IT at MMM

PLUS at least 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English, mathematics and science) or equivalent qualifcations.

Work Experience

No work experience is required.

Accreditation

It is intended that this programme will be accredited to meet the requirements for registration as an incorporated engineer.
