The normal requirements are A level Chemistry, Advanced Level GNVQ or a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in which chemistry is a major subject. Applications from those with other qualifications and mature students with appropriate experience are welcomed.

The department also offers a 4.5 year version of the programme with Foundation Studies.

The programme is modularised to provide some flexibility in the time required to complete the degree.

  • The first three years are the Foundation degree.
  • The final two years cover advanced topics in theoretical and practical chemistry, with a research project in the last year.

Scholarships and bursaries for undergraduate students

Excellence scholarship for UK and EU students

£2,100 every year for three years for students on an eligible three to four years undergraduate course.

Merit scholarship for UK and EU students

£2,000 for the first year of study only.

Studentship for UK and EU students

£2,100 for the first year of study for students on an eligible three to four years undergraduate course.

Studentship for international undergraduate students

£2,000-2,500 per annum for undergraduate students. An additional £1,000 for students from low and lower middle income countries.
