About

Dr. Liesbeth Noordegraaf-Eelens, Head of the Economics & Business Department at EUC, describes her Department:

“Economics and Business is everywhere, it is intermingled with daily lives on a local as well as on a global level. Thus, it should come as no surprise that we want to make our students in Economics & Business into all-round players: wherever they are, they should feel at home, and be ready to think, act and take on responsibility.

That is precisely why we offer them a solid basis in Economic & Business theories. We do this together with leading institutions in this field: the Erasmus School of Economics and the Rotterdam School of management. Excellent professors at these schools will train our students throughout the curriculum.

Next to that it is imperative that students become familiar with daily practices. Thanks to an extensive network of entrepreneurs, managers, policymakers and leaders in business at our disposal, we are able to offer our students this experience at an early stage. In this way the EUC curriculum fosters the development of an entrepreneurial attitude.

A final component is a second major offered at EUC. This combination of disciplines will help our students appreciate the importance of these insights in understanding and respecting the wider world around them as managers, business leaders or policymakers.

In order to reach these academic goals, we will ask the students to go the extra mile. We are however fully convinced that EUC students are able to live up to that challenge!”

If you chose to pick one of the Majors from the Economics & Business Department, you will tackle some of the following courses:
  • History and Philosophy of Economics
  • Micro Economics
  • Macro Economics
  • Law and Economics
  • International Economics
  • Marketing
  • Entrepreneurship

Programme Structure

Students at Erasmus University College (EUC) study three years in order to graduate for their Bachelor Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences.

During those three years you will take both mandatory Academic Core (ACC) courses to give you a solid foundation in knowledge and skills as well as declare a Major, while having the possibility to study for a semester abroad and choose a Minor. Finally, you will have to prove your mastery in an internship, a research project and/or a thesis. As such the path that each of our students follows in our curriculum will most likely be different to some extent.

Throughout their academic career, students will learn in an active environment. Most of the first year courses and a few year two and three follow a method a learning called Problem Based Learning. It is a problem-centered approach to active learning, which increases the motivation of the students and ignites a thorough interest in the subject matter.

You will learn in groups of 10, engaging in vivid discussions guided by a tutor and supported by a self-study. When this is not possible, case studies or other form of active and small-scaled learning will be used.
