The University of Liechtenstein was established in 1961 through the initiative of business and the State under the name “Abendtechnikum Vaduz”. It is funded by the State and various business organisations. In addition to the departments of Mechanical Engineering, the departments of Architecture and Civil Engineering were opened in 1963.
Research at the University of Liechtenstein is conducted with the objective to acquire knowledge, which gets transferred for the benefit of business and societal development.
The institutes conduct research within four selected focus areas. Research projects, which receive support from national and international research funding institutions, focus on areas with a high degree of relevance for Liechtenstein and the region.
The scientific utilisation of newly acquired knowledge happens through publications in scientific books and journals.
The career: service at the University of Liechtenstein offers help and assistance to students regarding contacts to companies as well as career counselling. We offer our services with internships, graduate programmes and jobs in Liechtenstein and abroad, career counselling and information about formal requirements in Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
The International Office is responsible for informing, advising and supporting students, staff and lecturers on all matters related to internationalism. We offer help in finding suitable programmes and guide you through the application process.
We also provide support to our international students and guests of the University.
The new student dormitory is placed very near to the university in the Fürst-Franz-Josef-Strasse 15-17, 9490 Vaduz Liechtenstein.
The student dormitory consists of two three-storey buildings. Buildings: “A” and “B” are laterally reversed.
There are six single and three double rooms at every level, a large shared kitchen / living room area, a laundry room and three shared bathrooms.
The library of the University of Liechtenstein is open to students, academic staff and the public. It is the university`s heart for literature research and offers expert knowledge, information and research support services for teaching, further education and research.Collection focus
Individuals, who are living longer than three months in Liechtenstein are legally required to purchase healthinsurance.
EU students legally insured in their own country are exempt from purchasing mandatory insurance upon presentation of the European Health Insurance Card or a provisional substitute confirmation.
Both may be requested from the health insurance provider in your home country.
The campus of the University of Liechtenstein situated above Vaduz is a special place. Open spaces. Light. Airy. Views soaring high above everyday life. A hundred years ago a textile factory came into being at this location. Today it is a factory for thinkers.
To get fit through the semester, Unisport keeps you moving. We offer continuous trainings in many team sports like soccer, basketball and volleyball.
Also there are some courses for your personal fitness and work-life balance for instance Pilates, Yoga or body toning.
In summer there is a wide range of options from football and boccia to paragliding over the Rhine Valley. Liechtenstein also offers ideal settings and facilities for biking, inline skating, jogging, swimming, climbing, golfing, riding and archery. Liechtenstein provides more than 400 km of well-marked hiking trails. In inclement weather, sports facilities are available for squash, climbing or tennis.
The University of Liechtenstein meets the requirements for Swiss universities. This is the conclusion drawn by the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ). The Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK) agreed to and thus approved the proposition of including the University of Liechtenstein in the Intercantonal Agreement on Universities (IUV).
