About

History

The University of Nicosia’s roots date back to 1980. Starting out small, in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, the university initially prepared students to successfully pass external exams of professional education bodies, while soon after it began offering its own programmes of study.

Education

The University pursues excellence in education through high teaching standards, in a continually improving academic environment. Besides classroom instruction, the University offers students opportunities to become involved in a whole range of activities including student clubs, sports, public lectures and seminars.

Student services

International Student Support serves all incoming and currently enrolled international students at the University. This service aims to help international students succeed personally and academically in their new and unfamiliar environment. It organises several events, orientation sessions at the beginning of each semester, workshops, seminars, and trips around Cyprus and abroad.

Housing services

Our Accommodation Office can help you find suitable and convenient housing for the duration of your studies.

This newly constructed UniHalls private hall of residence, is located a few minutes walking distance from the main campus and provides a modern, comfortable and safe environment for its residents. The accommodation complex offers a reading room, a cafeteria, restaurants and other recreational spaces, giving you the opportunity to easily meet and make friends with other students.

In addition to UniHalls, you can choose from a great range of other accommodation options, including renting an affordable private apartment or house in close vicinity to the University.

Library services

Our Library and Information Centre aims to provide quality resources that support the educational and research goals of the University community. The Centre is a well-resourced academic space (the 2nd largest academic library in Cyprus), with an impressive collection of some 100,000 print books in all relevant areas of study, thousands of electronic resources through online databases, approximately 500,000 e-books, and full text e-journals from various publishers.

ICT services

The University’s IT infrastructure provides high speed connection to appropriate services and the Internet through a number of high performance local area networks (LAN), using 1 hybrid GB backbone built with copper and fibre optics cables.

Campus life

UNIC’s modern campus is made up of 18 purpose-built and refurbished buildings situated amid the urban landscape in the bustling suburb of Engomi in Nicosia. Over the last few years, we have invested over €55 million in our campus infrastructure.

The expansive layout of our campus allows us to provide specialised facilities to support each academic department. The whole neighbourhood is oriented towards student life, allowing for a unique social experience, characterised by community interaction, diversity, learning and fun.

In addition to the teaching facilities, the campus provides the full set of student amenities and support services.

Sports facilities

The University’s state-of-the-art UFIT Fitness Centre is a leading gym in Cyprus, offering students excellent services under the professional guidance of health and sports science specialists. UNIC students benefit from special rates.

We maintain a high standard athletics programme, enabling students to participate in the Cyprus University Sports Federation Championships in women’s and men’s football, basketball, volleyball, handball, swimming, futsal, table tennis, cross country run, beach volleyball, badminton, Judo, Taekwondo, track and field, and tennis.

All University of Nicosia Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degrees are accredited by the Republic of Cyprus, following an independent evaluation by the Evaluation Committee for Private Universities (ECPU).
