Novia University of Applied Sciences was formed on August 1, 2008, by the merging of the Sydväst Polytechnic and the Swedish Polytechnic, Finland.

The Research and Development (R&D) activities at Novia University of Applied Sciences (UAS) support a genuine joint effort between the UAS and the regional businesses and industries. The research and development activity is being developed as a part of the Finnish innovation system through strategically chosen, long-term partners. Working at a part-time job in the evenings and/or weekends is possible while studying at Novia UAS. Keep in mind it may be quite exhausting to work and study at the same time. It may also be difficult to keep up with your studies if you are using your free-time to work. The TE Services (providing public employment and business services in Finland) can assist you when you are looking for a job.
Many organisations offer scholarships or grants. Some of these might help you to study for a Bachelor at Novia University of Applied Sciences!
When you have been admitted as a student at Novia UAS there are many things that you need to do and perhaps some major life changes are ahead of you. To assist you we have made a checklist below of some of the things you may need to do or check before you begin you studies. The student affairs offices can also assist you with matters related to your studies.
Novia UAS does not offer student accommodation. Students are expected to arrange their own living before their arrival in Finland/or place of study.
It is important that you apply for student living as soon as possible after receiving your decision on student admission to ensure that you have a place to stay when the studies commence.
The library is a central pedagogical resource for learning, teaching and research at Novia UAS.
The library at Novia UAS is a part of Tritonia. We offer library services at all campuses.
In Raseborg are the services offered at the city library. In addition to printed books and journals we also have a large collection of electronic information resources.
Novia UAS has negotiated an insurance package at the insurance company Marsh that can be purchased by international students studying at Novia UAS. Non-EU students are required to obtain a student health insurance for their student residence permit. Novia UAS recommends the Marsh student health insurance as it covers the basic health care needs of a student during their stay in Finland.
Novia UAS has about 4000 students and a staff of 300 people. Novia has five educational units or campuses in Jakobstad, Vaasa (Seriegatan and Wolffskavägen), Raseborg and Turku. There are two additional units, the Unit for Research and Development and the Unit for further education (The Centre for Lifelong Learning, CLL).
Degree programmes in English are offered in Raseborg, Turku, Vaasa and Jakobstad.
There are many pastimes, sports and hobbies to enjoy in Raseborg. Among the most popular sports are handball, football and golf. The sports institute in Fiskars offers various activities, and there is a swimming pool in Ekenäs. It is also possible to participate in various cultural events.
What not to miss while in Finland:
Novium is an independent service and support organisation for all the students at Novia UAS. Its status is regulated by law. Members of the student union annualy elect representatives to the Union Council. The decisions of the council are implemented by the Executive Board, which is supported by a secreteriat.
The student union is represented in the Board of Novia University of Applied Sciences and in other decision making bodies within Novia UAS and therefore has good possibilities to voice students' interests in all decision making.
